Going the extra mile…
…is usually worth it. It was just last week that Shotgun and I made a one-word plan (the word in question being “pub”), which then turned into a mini driving adventure across the Cotswolds, as he decided that another trip to one of the two remaining pubs in town that we frequent just wasn’t going to cut it. Instead, he suggested a country pub up in the hills, that he had visited just the once a few years beforehand - The Mount Inn, up in Stanton. With nothing but his vague recollections of the directions, his wonderful mix-CD for singing along to (in my case, for singing off-key to), and the cheatingratherIknow GoogleMaps in my phone, we found our way up there in time for a couple of drinks on the terrace, before moving inside for dinner when it all got a bit too autumnal and chilly outside. The terrace looks out across the valley, so we were watching a rainstorm move across the horizon, all lit in the colours of the rather glorious sunset. I’d forgotten too just how pretty the little villages around there are, all golden stone and quaint front doors, and proper chimneys. I think as far catch-up evenings in the pub go, it was up there with the best of them, and definitely worth the distance!
