No luck finding my license.

This means it’s probably in a box of unidentified paperwork somewhere in this godforsaken house. Which my parents won’t be back to look through until after the deadline for rearranging my test date.

Add to that the fact that I’ve only just discovered that my theory test expires on 1st June, and I’m about one excuse short of a fit of throwing stuff at walls. Because that gives me a three week window from when my test is actually booked for to when my theory expires to actually pass. And I have to move my test now anyway, because if my license can’t be found at all I won’t know until after the aforementioned deadline has passed, which will leave me at the back of the queue for rebooking my test (and thus definitely out of the window for my theory test) and £62 out of pocket.

And even if I apply for a new copy of my license (that’s another £20) that won’t arrive for up to two weeks, probably longer considering it’s a bank holiday, which will not only be after my current test date, but will leave me with a fortnight to book and pass my test.

Plus if I fail, I’ll now inevitably have to retake both.

“Not impressed” is an understatement.

Two days in to my fortnight home alone

And I have learnt:

  • “Biatch” is an acceptable suffix to all positive statements.
  • “Crapsicles” is my new and most commonly used swearword.
  • Megalomania / power trips from the use of cleaning products are a thing.
  • So are stonking headaches from the same…
  • How much I’ve missed cooking for myself. Because oh my god nothing but delicious food whenever and as much as I want nom.
  • My wireless router is an attention seeker and a pain in the backside.
  • Pyjamas with aviators are perfectly acceptable attire.
  • Hangers entangle with a strength greater than that of the adhesion of geckos’ feet. Stuck with superglue. And then taped down.
  • My laptop speakers are not loud enough.
  • Taking vitamin pills gives meulcers.
  • Everything tastes better with chopsticks. I would eat everything with chopsticks if I could. Even icecream. Maybe not cereal though…
  • I have no idea how long leftovers last for.
  • I need to learn to grout.

Expect updates to this list!

Graduation. Or “Why My Uni Sucks…”

People I want to take to my graduation = 3
People I should take to my graduation = 3

Problem: They are not the same 3.

Solution, you say? Take all of them, you say?

Number of guest tickets available per graduate = 3

Bugger.

I had grand plans for a New Year’s post

Y’know, something like a “Top moments of 2012” or a “2012 in music” like I did last year or even a resolutions post. Something, anyway, to mark the end of an insane year and the beginning of the one where I really need to get my life together.

But no. Instead, pretty much all I’ve achieved this year is to sprawl around my house in my pyjamas, dosed up on a cocktail of painkillers and antibiotics, first thanks to my wisdom teeth playing up again, and then blocked up, headachey, feeling woozy and kinda faint a lot, with an on-and-off temperature, completely without any form of concentration (losing track of sentences halfway through words, for example…), sleeping for up to 15 hours in one go and more than than in a day, and with talking and / or swallowing being absolutely agonising at completely random intervals (and then being fine again for no obvious reason…).

So plans to get on with things tomorrow are out of the window as it’s nearly 3am (couldn’t sleep because breathing was hurting…) and the codeine I’ve just resorted to will probably knock me sideways for even longer than “normal” (for current definitions of normal…).

This has been a post. A sleep-deprived, possibly slightly delirious post. And sure as hell not an impressive NY2013 post. Ah well.

Christmas chez Dweia

  • Wonder repeatedly why it doesn’t feel like Christmas this year. Blame the weather and the apocalypse.
  • Fail to make Christmas cards for most of the family.
  • Christmas dinner European style, on Christmas Eve… Several hours later than planned.
  • Attempt to go to a midnight service. Give up on this plan only once @IrisAngel is all ready to go (trollolol XD).
  • Wrap presents until long into the early hours, feeling bad about all the people you failed to buy presents for…
  • Sleep for a few hours. Maybe. Depending on insomnia.
  • Wake up far too early, invade parents’ room with @IrisAngel like we’re six years old to unwrap stocking presents.
  • Go to morning service at church. Be annoyed by small children. Be impressed by our vicar’s neon pink hair. Sing descants very loudly. Run into an old friend who’s home for the holidays.
  • Open some presents. Start the obsessively detailed present list.
  • Christmas Dinner mark two, including home made chocolate mousse. Soldier through despite wisdom teeth playing up.
  • Queen’s speech, i.e. sporadically paying attention…
  • More presents. Dad starts snoring has a nap.
  • Be disappointed by Doctor Who.
  • Be annoyed by the outcome of Strictly.
  • Wonder what happened to Wallace and Gromit this year…
  • Watch LOTR and sob copiously like it’s 2001 all over again what is this “shame” of which you speak?
  • asdfghjkllotrfeelshelp
  • Skip dinner / tea (eat chocolate and drink Baileys instead).
  • Inevitable phonecalls to/from relatives.
  • Youtube videos with the parents.
  • Collapse.
  • Be thankful it’s only once a year…

Another weekend away

…not spent on Tumblr or Twitter… I still haven’t caught up after last weekend - it’s going to take me months now(!)

Anyhoo. Despite only having had two hours sleep (don’t ask me why - apparently my brain just didn’t want to switch off on Friday night…) I was up at ungodly o’clock on Saturday morning to help my mum run her craft stall. Which mainly involved lifting the heavy things that mum shouldn’t… It wasn’t too bad actually, despite being cold, breezy, and drizzling XD Sold a good few things, and have had ideas on how to make the stall look Christmassy for the next fair we’re doing.

From there, it was back down south, for another house party, this time with @abbadon101’s airsoft friends and their friends. It was a good party - there was a suitable amount of booze, music from the brilliant to the ridiculous, and loads of people that I’d never met before who were fabulous. Spent the night talking F1, football, music, festivals, cars, and guns, failing utterly at remembering how to speak French, taking the piss out of someone’s designer label pants, not getting around to even starting the drinking games, and dancing to Steps and the Macarena with a bunch of almost complete strangers in the living room of someone I’d only met a few hours before… XD I always seem to have the best times when I’m with people I’ve only just met. Don’t know what that says about me! I also still have half a bottle of red wine left over… Very inefficient of me, I know!

Sunday morning was the Remembrance Day parade and service. I seem to do something different every year for that - I was in London last year, at the Cenotaph (because I happened to be in London, so where else?), and the year before I was in Tewkesbury Abbey for the service there. Wonder where I’ll be next year…

Then in the afternoon it was a quick trip down to the airsoft site, and where I got to have a bit of a play on the range… :D I have no idea how good I was(n’t), but it was fun all the same XD I also got to mix army boots (which I havemissedfar too much - I lost my pair years ago :C ) with skinny jeans, which was an interesting look…!

Journey home had its interesting moments. Managed to miss my connecting train by literally a few seconds, ending up on the platform swearing at the departing train like every cliché ever, having absolutely pegged it across and run up the stairs just in time to see the doors close and it pull away…

Oh and I managed to punch a bridge as well… don’t ask XD

A Twitter Hiatus Catchup

Haven’t been on Twitter this past weekend - I’ve been avoiding it because I haven’t been able to watch the F1 yet, or Strictly, and I didn’t want to ruin them! So here’s a quick rundown of the weekend.

Friday evening was the grand tour of the three pubs in @Abbadon101’s village, finishing up with dinner at the nicest one. It was an absolutely lovely evening out. And then I knocked an entire glass of red wine down his front… Oops… (It all came out, which was good, but I did nearly give the table next to us a heart attack…!).

Spent Saturday night at a Hallowe’en party (dressed up as Poison Ivy, which mainly involved lots of skin-tight green…) with @Abbadon101 (dressed as a worryingly believable zombie) and his responders friends. It was a fairly chilled out affair, but I got to meet a good few people, and re-meet some of the people I met the other week but had since forgotten the names of(!) Never did get to find out whose makeup took longer though…

Sunday afternoon was a trip down to the airsoft site to get his newest acquisition fixed (he hadn’t told me it wasn’t working, let alone that it wasn’t working because of something he’d done when putting it together, so of course I mocked him plenty for that XD) and where I got to meet some of the people who’ll be at the party next week. They seem a good bunch, who rip the piss out of everyone and everything completely equally (although they appeared to go easy on me - not sure if I’m relieved or mildly disappointed…!). Either way though, I like them XD

Then we headed off to see the new Bond film; Skyfall. It was easily the best of the Daniel Craig films, with some absolutely hilarious moments, as well as a proper rip-roaring start, and some great new characters. And plenty of explosions. So I was happy XD My rating: 4*

Oh, and I finally finished the first Game of Thrones book. It’s taken me long enough, but that’s because I haven’t had chance to do any reading at home! Now to borrow the next four off my mother. And read the Bioshock book @Abbadon101 has leant me. And get on with working my way properly through all the Pratchetts. Including Nation. And the next Sherlock Holmes books. And I’m sure there are some more on my list…

So yes, that was my weekend! Got a few days at home now, before I then have a concert, a craft fair, and a party, and then I think I’m off to London for a day or two… I think! Oh, and I have two races to write up; mustn’t forget those XD

Formulabombing on tour

a.k.a. “The Blurry and Semi-Obscured Chronicles of Monza 2012”

Basically, for those who aren’t aware, I spent last weekend in Milan for the Italian Formula One Grand Prix. If you’re interested in hearing about what I got up to, or seeing some of my photos (from the remarkably good to the utterly dire), I’m in the process of posting it on my F1 dedicated Tumblr, all under one convenient tag. So watch that space!

For those who were wondering about my “ASDFGHJKL ROB SMEDLEY” tweet on Thursday, this is the reason XD Not only did he sign my Brazilian flag (photos to come), but he called me “sweetheart”, and mocked me for how much I was shaking whilst ohmysweetmagnolia was taking this photo! (I can never thank you enough. Ever XD)
Regarding the rest of the trip, I’ll be going through my photos and posting them hopefully this week, as well as writing up my many, many adventures at La Pista Magica (and as names go, it couldn’t be more accurate). So watch this space!
